[20:06] * Ken ensures his logs are running and runs his usual diagnostic on the engines.
[20:08] <Bynw> *moments later the Lady Luck is again in normal space. Far from the Khelliannsu worlds and still far from the Alliance, again it will take about 3 jumps total. Space is black and empty save for distant stars. DRADIS is clear.
[20:08] <Bynw> *However the panels at the bridge of the Lady Luck are anything but clear.
[20:09] <Raith> ::Checks the instruments::
[20:09] <Bynw> *Pilot and co-pilot's panels are lighting up like Christmas morning.

[20:10] * Ken reviews his logs from the point of liftoff to the jump.
[20:11] <Bynw> *Jaeih see's it all right. She is looking all around at the alien controls of the Lady Luck -- attempting to make sense of it.* "Yes ... " *she finally is able to find the controls that turn off the audible alarms.*
[20:11] <Raith> ::Typing furiously and flipping switches, in sudden frustration he slams his fist into one of the overhead consoles::
[20:12] <Raith> "Dammit!"
[20:12] <Raith> ::Opens an intercom channel to engineering:: "Ken, everything is totally haywire here on the bridge, what's going on?"
[20:12] * Ken examines the database in the navcomp.
[20:12] <Ken> ::over Comms:: "The navcomp database is corrupted."
[20:13] * Dr_Cross has quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)

[20:13] <Ken> ::over Comms:: "The navcomp has no idea where the ship is so we cannot long range jump."
[20:14] <Raith> ::Intercom:: "What! Ken we are in the middle of no-mans land. Is that Klade datapad doing this?"
[20:14] <Ken> ::over Comms:: "I think it is probable."
[20:14] <Raith> ::Looks at Jaeih, worry in his eyes::
[20:15] <Raith> ::Utters a long stream of curses with the intercom channel open::
[20:15] * Dr_Cross makes sure his patient is safe and secure, muttering to himself "Of course its the Klade's fault"
[20:16] <Bynw> *Jaeih looks at Raith* "What is it?"
[20:17] * Ken examines the navcomp logs from the point of entry to Khellinsu space
[20:18] <Raith> ::To Jaeih, and out of reception to the intercom:: "We're up shit creek without a paddle."

[20:21] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "We have limited navigational data ... It's taken me a few minutes here to read your systems but it seems like the stellar cartography data is completely corrupted. We cant jump without mapping it ourselves right now. Which would take a long time given the distance involved."

[20:22] * Ken heads for the Bridge
[20:22] <Ken> "Cap'n we need to try a reboot with that pad again. May I?"
[20:23] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "You have a backup of the data? That's good."
[20:23] <Raith> ::Closes the intercom. Still typing and trying switches as he talks:: "Are our last jump logs still intact? Can we jump back into your space?"
[20:24] <Raith> "Please do Ken. Your the expert here, I trust ya."
[20:24] <Raith> ::Stands up and allows Ken to take his seat::
[20:24] <Bynw> *Jaeih shakes her head* "No the data isn't available. It's all corrupted. We cant jump back either."
[20:25] * Ken sits down and begins the reboot sequence.

[20:28] <Raith> "Jaeih, get long range sensors up and running. Do a full scan as far out as we can. See if there is anything out here. Planets habitable or ourtherwise."
[20:28] <Bynw> *the data transfer is starting but it will take sometime ... the system seems to be slower than normal*
[20:29] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "Yes Captian" *she starts to manipulate the controls ... stumbling a bit due to their unfamiliarity*
[20:29] * Ken opens a process monitor and tracks what is running in the system.
[20:30] <Raith> "What do you have for us Ken?"
[20:31] <Ken> "Something is slowing the system down..."
[20:33] * Dr_Cross puts his patient in stasis... worried and listening on to the bridge chatter
[20:34] * Sathara walks onto the bridge, having come from the gun turret.  "What the frak is going on?"
[20:34] <Raith> "Klade pad choose the perfect time to crash and burn on us. Ken's looking into it now."
[20:35] <Sathara> "Oh frakking hell."
[20:35] <Raith> ::mutters to himself:: "Hell of a day to slow my drinking down..."
[20:35] * Sathara overhears Raith and stifles a snicker.
[20:36] * Ken gets up and runs to engineering coming back with one of his own datapads
[20:40] * Ken eyes go unfocused
[20:40] <Ken> !df 4

[20:41] * Dr_Cross has quit (Client closed the connection)
[20:43] <Raith> ::scrubs the bristly stubble on his head in nervousness as he tries to remain paitent::
[20:44] <Sathara> "Where the hell are we anyway?  I thought we were jumping back home to escort the Khelliannsu."
[20:45] <Raith> "I know exactly where we are...smack dab between an asteroid and a hard place."
[20:46] * Sathara cuts Raith an odd look and bites off a few choice swear words under her breath.
[20:47] <Ken> ::looks at Raith:: "Should I open the comm circuit?"
[20:47] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "Actually we are some distance from the nearest system."
[20:48] <Raith> ::To Ken:: "When the pad is done restarting, yeah. Let's get our pals on the comm."
[20:49] * Ken runs some numbers on his personal datapad

[20:50] <Ken> "At the current rate, it will take several hours to finish."
[20:51] <Raith> ::Clinches his jaw in thought for a moment::
[20:51] <Raith> "Try to open a channel, see if we can."
[20:52] <Raith> "Jaeih, what has the sensors turned up?"
[20:53] <Ken> "We could try rebooting all systems one at a time; see if it speeds up the rebuild."
[20:53] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "Just that we are far from anywhere at this point. We could potentially jump to the nearest system. Unknown what kind of planets are there."

[20:54] <Ken> "Which do you want me to try first Cap'n?"
[20:56] <Raith> "Can we get the Jump drives up and get to that nearest system? Who knows, it might have somewhere we can put down for a bit and get this cleared up. I don't like sitting out here in the unknown with no way to jump away from trouble."
[20:57] <Raith> "At the least it might have somewhere we can hide."
[20:58] <Ken> "We can do a short range jump; but it will take several to just to that system."
[21:01] * Dr_Cross comms (butts) in "Cap, we're going to jump into an _unknown_ system? We're safe enough floating here while fixing the problem"
[21:02] <Raith> "Resetting all our systems out here would leave us sitting ducks to anyone that passed by. Ken get down to engineering and get us set to make a couple short hops." ::taps Ken's shoulder and motions him to move out of the navigators seat:: "I'll set a course."
[21:03] * Ken nods and heads to engineering
[21:03] <Ken> :: over his shoulder:: "It will be more than two Cap."
[21:04] * Dr_Cross grumbles but otherwise shuts up
[21:04] <Raith> ::Takes a seat and begins plotting a course to the edge of the nearest system, flicking switches all about him and typing on the nav-console::
[21:06] <Bynw> *its about 1/4 of a light year away but without detailed navigational data it might as well be 1500
[21:06] * Ken arrives at engineering and spins up the jump drives manually.
[21:06] <Ken> ::Over comms:: "30 minutes to spinup."
[21:07] <Sathara> "How's DRADIS so far?"
[21:07] * Ken sets up his redundant logs and also an extra monitor on the link from the navcomp.
[21:07] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "Captain. The odds are against anyone just happening to be here out in the void between systems. We run a greater chance of encountering other travellers within a system rather than outside of it."
[21:07] <Bynw> *DRADIS is clear ... no contacts
[21:07] * Ken closely monitors the spinup and energy grid for any abnormalities
[21:08] <Raith> ::Transfers the scanners data from Jaeih's station to the nav-console and begins plotting a course to take them to the outmost planet in the system (at the end of several jumps)::
[21:09] * Ken begins making some fine adjustments various systems.
[21:09] <Ken> !df 5

[21:10] <Raith> "And a greater chance of finding help." ::Lowers his voice so only Jaeih hears:: "We shut those systems down they may not come back on. You want to get out and push' that happens?"
[21:11] <Bynw> "Point taken Captain. It would increase are chances of finding aid. But we know nothing about this area of space."
[21:12] <Raith> ::Grins at Jaeih:: "That's the fun part."
[21:13] * Sathara shakes her head and swears under her breath again.
[21:15] <Raith> ::Chuckles:: "See I feel better just knowing Sathara's here, like a big night light when you where a kid."
[21:17] * Dr_Cross sighs, just sighs
[21:18] <Raith> ::Opens the intercom again:: "Ken spin up the secondary jump drive's as well in case we need to make a fast getaway."
[21:18] <Ken> ::over comms:: Aye"
[21:18] <Sathara> "You better hope we don't need my particular area of special expertise right now, Cap'n."
[21:19] * Ken starts the secondary spinup; balancing the power needs by draining a little from other systems so primary is not slowed down
[21:20] <Bynw> *jump drives show they are ready for jump*
[21:21] <Ken> ::over comms:: "Jump drives ready Cap"
[21:21] <Raith> ::Intercom:: "Ken keep a close eye on things, if something looks wrong stop the jump. Don't ask, just do it."
[21:21] <Ken> ::over comms:: "Aye Cap"
[21:22] <Raith> "Jump in 5...4...3...2...jump." ::engages the jump drive::
[21:22] * Ken monitors the jump drives carefully and the grid; setting up a deaman switch so he can just let go to kill the drive.
[21:23] <Bynw> *the jump drives open the wormhole that bridges vast distances of space and the ship emerges on the other side within moments, less than half the distance needed to make it to the system*
[21:23] * Ken runs a diagnostic.
[21:25] <Raith> ::Intercom:: "How are we looking Ken?"
[21:26] <Bynw> *navcomp is readjusting getting ready for the next jump to its final destination*
[21:26] <Ken> ::over comms:: "Secondary good to go; primary spinning up but it feels WRONG."
[21:27] <Raith> ::Intercom:: "Shut it down."
[21:27] * Ken shuts down the primary drive and reruns a diagnostic on the secondary drive; especially the jump routines
[21:29] <Raith> ::Sighs::
[21:30] <Raith> ::Runs a simulation in the nav-computer. How long it would take to get in system with just one more jump and the rest of the way under normal power::
[21:30] <Bynw> *secondary drive shows ready for jump*
[21:31] <Ken> ::over comms:: "Secondary also shows off nominal but should be ok"
[21:31] <Bynw> *the nav comp cant give an exact estimate due to fluxuations in jumping but it would take days to get there under normal drives
[21:34] * Ken sets up several different monitors on the jump drives, grid and nav comp as well as the relays between the systems
[21:35] <Raith> ::Sighs, then over intercom:: "Jump in 5...4...3...2...jump." ::engages the secondary jump drives::
[21:38] <Bynw> *Again the Lady Luck crosses the void and emerges into real space again ... just moments after she jumps. Outside of the system destination still.*
[21:39] <Ken> ::over comms:: "No more jumps Cap."
[21:40] * Ken engages a full sensor scan of the space around them
[21:41] <Raith> ::Intercom:: "Spin up the secondary jump drive again Ken."
[21:42] <Ken> ::over comm:: "I would not advise it Cap."
[21:42] <Ken> ::over comm:: "Each jump makes the drives worse than before."
[21:43] * Sathara swears again and goes back to the turret to check its operational status.
[21:45] * Dr_Cross queries the computer for an inventory of emergency equipment
[21:48] <Raith> "Jaeih, how long till we make it in system without jump drives?"
[21:48] <Dr_Cross> ... and is heartened that the ship has an almost-full stock of equipment and supplies
[21:48] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "Calculating the remaining distance Captain"
[21:50] <Bynw> *Jaeih* "21 hours ... "
