Introduction and Prelude

Welcome to the lands of Kega Taihen Ki!
Set in the World of Teara-Adan, this group of islands can be found west of the _ Continent,
but forever separated, due to a barrier of sea storms, gigantic whirlpools, and wild magic.

(This is a playtest of a hybrid Fudge/Mythic RPG rulesets. Design goals include:
Zero or almost zero preparation, built-in random events, dynamic world-creation,
and much more from the innovations of Mythic and the ease and flexibility of Fudge.
Thanks to Bynw and company for letting us play at Fudge IRC and giving us space
at the Teara-Adan Forums. The log below has been edited for easier reading.)

Our adventure begins in the southernmost island of Kirin, in the mountain village of Mesa...

Some vile fires erupt out of nothing in a distant forest, killing all hunters and woodmen
and setting a nearby town on fire. Lots of people died and much more flee, abandoning their houses.
The cause of the fire is a mystery. The aftershocks of this event reach the village of Mesa, causing alarm and panic.

Anami, the blacksmith, is tending to her old father and sick little sister when this happened.
She goes outside to the vilage square, joined by her sister, father, priest, and perennial suitor.
They clearly see strange, dark-colored flames emanate from the distant horizon...

(11:22:21 AM) GM: the town is on a hill with deep forest sorrounding it for miles, up to the horizon
(11:23:29 AM) Anami: ok then, by the time the fires irrupted, she'll stare at the distant dark flames fascinated, for a long time... a lot of people passed by her, either running to the city of the hill or for their houses, in fear
(11:24:17 AM) GM: Town Father Sheng: "By the Unshaven Gods! What has happended?"
(11:24:18 AM) Anami: she'll stay in the middle of the street until her fathers call for her
(11:24:52 AM) Old Kojima, Anami's father: "Thats not our business... lets go back to the house"
(11:26:19 AM) Old Kojima: "COME ON!!!!"
(11:27:17 AM) Anami: "Sorry father" *she'll goes back, nonchalantly keeping an eye on the mesmerizing dark lights on the horizon*
(11:27:31 AM) Old Kojima: "Dont just stand there looking like a dumbass, lets go home NOW!"
(11:28:48 AM) *** Suddenly, the mayor bursts into the scene, parting the crowd with his huge belly
(11:29:35 AM) ***Anami looks at the mayor
(11:29:41 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "We're doomed!"
(11:30:36 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "That was our frontier outpost..."
(11:31:07 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "it can only mean... we're doomed!"
(11:31:26 AM) ***Anami keeps listening, curious
(11:31:43 AM) ***Anami looks at her father
(11:32:06 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "What do we do?!?!?!"
(11:33:38 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "Anything that can destroy a fortress can easily wipe out this village"
(11:35:51 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "Gotta gather my town guards to protect my properties!!"
(11:36:11 AM) ***Anami shouts enraged
(11:36:33 AM) Anami: "You should think in townsfolk first, you bastard"
(11:36:51 AM) Mayor Muksamim: "Whats your problem, smith? The town needs me"
(11:37:24 AM) ***Anami looks at her father, seeking for support
(11:37:59 AM) Old Kojima: "Bah, he's right. lets just go home"
(11:39:00 AM) Sato, the butcher's son: "Lets go, Anami. He's not worth it"
(11:39:36 AM) ***Anami runs after Sato, ignoring her fathers yells
(11:40:40 AM) ***Anami and Sato run to the towns temple, after the wisdom of the old priest, Father Sheng
(11:42:09 AM) Father Sheng: "I dont know what happened at the frontier but i do detect foul magic was used"
(11:43:02 AM) Father Sheng: "We'll get help from the Capital but they'll take weeks to get here"
(11:43:19 AM) Anami: "Do you think we have this time?"
(11:43:47 AM) Anami: "Do you think they're heading this way?"
(11:44:06 AM) Father Sheng: "Not really. we may have to evacuate the town if the phenomena or whoever did it comes our way"
(11:44:33 AM) Sato: "Lets get married first, Anami!"
(11:44:41 AM) ***Anami blushes
(11:45:04 AM) Anami: "Erm... thats... I mean...I..."
(11:45:52 AM) Father Sheng: "We have no time for that. Remember, the gods are unshaven at this time..."
(11:46:50 AM) Father Sheng: "It will be 3 months before the gods are presentable and give marital blessings"
(11:47:15 AM) Anami: "See? Stop being silly, Sato!"
(11:48:47 AM) GM: * someone enters the church
(11:49:24 AM) Father Sheng: "Why its Ryuno the Alchemist... Welcome, old friend"
(11:49:36 AM) ***Anami faces the stranger
(11:50:08 AM) GM: Father Sheng: "Anami, i'd like you to meet Ryuno"
(11:50:39 AM) Anami: "Nice to meet you sir"
(11:51:08 AM) ***Anami bows respectfully
(11:51:18 AM) Ryuno: "Greetings, Anami. The recent event is disturbing"
(11:51:48 AM) Anami: "Do you know something about it Sire?"
(11:52:06 AM) Ryuno: "According to my sources, our army has been wiped out, based in the fortress"
(11:52:33 AM) Ryuno: "Our militia here is pitiful, the mayor more so"
(11:53:09 AM) Ryuno: "Would you care to join me in investigating this dire event, Anami?"
(11:53:25 AM) Ryuno: "We need to find out what we're facing"
(11:53:45 AM) Anami: "But.... my father...."
(11:53:51 AM) ***Anami looks down
(11:54:12 AM) Anami: "He wouldnt let me"
(11:54:27 AM) Ryuno: "You have power though you are young"
(11:55:03 AM) Anami: "Why me Sire? What power? I'm just a poor blacksmith"
(11:55:05 AM) Ryuno: "I need your power and skills"
(11:55:35 AM) Ryuno: "The power to imbue weapons and armor with magic"
(11:56:08 AM) Ryuno: "i need to look at your shop, for weapons we can use"
(11:58:01 AM) Ryuno: "I have a retinue of ronin who will need extra help like your power"
(11:58:46 AM) Anami: [how can he knows? hmm...] "Sire... how did you know that?"
(11:59:21 AM) ***Anami holds Sato arms, fearing something unknown
(12:00:14 PM) Ryuno: "I have seen your natural talent"
(12:00:54 PM) Ryuno: "i have been working with your father... to develop your skills"
(12:01:20 PM) ***Anami looks amazed
(12:01:36 PM) Anami: "But... I... I didn't"
(12:01:46 PM) Anami: "I didnt..."
(12:02:08 PM) Ryuno: "...but you didnt know coz all you think of is how harsh your father is"
(12:02:37 PM) Ryuno: "...but he has been helping in drawing out your powers to imbue objects with magic"
(12:02:59 PM) Anami: "Father..."
(12:03:30 PM) Ryuno: "but he does this, not out of love, but for the money i give"
(12:03:48 PM) Ryuno: "he doesnt value you but i do"
(12:04:42 PM) Ryuno: "with my alchemy and you smithskills, we can help our world... and even become legends"
(12:05:09 PM) Ryuno: "...and dont forget the the rewards and honor!"
(12:05:52 PM) Ryuno: "but all of this will be nothing, if we are facing destruction from the frontier"
(12:05:53 PM) ***Anami blinks, seduced by the dream to be something more than just the smiths daughter
(12:06:50 PM) Ryuno: "we need to live, to fulfill our destinies"
(12:07:05 PM) Anami: "I... I agree with you Sire, I'll follow you. I want to fulfill my destiny"
(12:07:21 PM) Anami: "I'm sorry Sato, i have to leave"
(12:07:44 PM) Sato: "Waaaaaaaah" *sobs and runs out of the church
(12:08:10 PM) Father Sheng: "i'll join you too, Ryuno"
(12:08:31 PM) *** Sato re-enters the room...
(12:08:41 PM) Sato: "Ok. I go where Anami goes"
(12:09:41 PM) Ryuno: "We are four plus 6 ronin. lets hope this is enough"
